It’s time refresh your closet
The time has come. You need to clean out your closet. It’s been a while and you’ve accumulated new outfits while still keeping items you haven’t worn in years. For example, do you really need that dress that you stopped wearing when it went out of style five years ago? Of course you don’t. Which is exactly why it’s time to clean out your closet.
Relax, it’s not going to be as difficult as you think. Just take it step by step and you’ll be done in no time.
It’s all about separating the good, the bad and the ugly
You need to be strict with yourself when cleaning out your closet. You can’t allow yourself to become sentimental. Well, there are certain items you simply can’t part with because they hold such precious memories, like your wedding dress or matric dance dress. The rest, however, has to go.
If you haven’t worn an item in more than a year, it needs to go. You’ve gone through four seasons without touching it, so why would you decide to wear it in the future? It’s simply taking up space that could be used for clothes you can’t wait to put on. It doesn’t matter if it’s in great condition, you’re still not going to wear it.
Now, you need to think about your own personal style and the kind of clothes that suit your personality today. Those are the items you will definitely be keeping. Fashion changes and so does our taste in clothing. Limit what you keep to the types of outfits you want to be seen in. However, you should also keep a few comfy things for around the house.
Separate your clothes into three piles. The first pile consists of what you’re definitely keeping. The second pile is made up of what is still in good enough condition to donate and the third pile are all the items you’ve held you onto for so long that you simply have to throw them out.
Now it’s time to organise and repack
Don’t repack right away. You’ve gone through all the effort of cleaning out your closet, it’s time to add a subtle, clean fragrance. Our Airoma 3-in-1 Fabric and Linen product is guaranteed to give your clothes and closet a lovely scent.
Before you start packing away, there are a few things you need to do. First, get rid of the other two piles, even if you simply move them into another room. Now, lay out all the items of clothing you’re keeping. What are the outfits you’ll be wearing regularly? What are the outfits that are reserved for special occasions? Put the clothes you’re going to be wearing less often further back in the closet. There’s no point having to dig through all your designer dresses to get to your everyday outfits. Accessibility is key.
However, before you start packing everything you wear daily into the front of your closet, separate them into categories. Are there certain things you wear to dinner with friends? Are there outfits you wear to work? Are there outfits you’re only going to wear while running errands? To make getting dressed easier in the morning, organise your clothes into these categories.
It may seem like a lot of time and effort before you start. However, once you’re done, you’ll be thrilled with your pristine closet. Plus, it will be so much easier to pick out your outfits in the morning!
